About This Place

Serafina Osteria is a quintessential Italian dining destination tucked in the heart of Midtown Manhattan at 38 E 58th St. This charming Osteria captures the essence of authentic Italian cuisine with a distinct New York flair, offering a diverse menu that appeals both to casual visitors and discerning food lovers.

Step inside or enjoy their intimate outdoor seating area to soak in an inviting, lively atmosphere that resonates with the joyful spirit of an Italian neighborhood trattoria. Lively yet approachable, the space hums with convivial energy—perfect for a relaxed lunch, an early pre-theater dinner, or a leisurely evening meal. While the buzz can get a bit loud, it only adds to the authentic vibe, enhancing the feeling of sharing a genuine Italian experience amid friends and family.

The culinary offerings at Serafina Osteria showcase a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional Italian flavors, elevated with fresh ingredients and expert craftsmanship. Begin with antipasti like the Fetta Unta Bruschetta, bursting with garlic and ripe tomatoes, or indulge in the tender, herb-sautéed Funghi alle Erbe. If seafood is your preference, the Grilled Calamari features baby field greens with a light herb dressing that perfectly balances the dish.

Salads here are far more than mere sides, such as the Del Fattore garden-fresh salad with marinated onions and Chianti vinegar that awakens the palate. Or opt for the Classica All' Aceto di Fichi, a lively combination of baby arugula, cherry tomatoes, shaved Parmigiano Reggiano, and aged fig vinegar for a complex yet refreshing bite.

Main courses (Secondi Piatti) shine with carefully prepared dishes like the Petto di Pollo alla Contadina, a grilled marinated chicken breast served on a bed of fresh garden salad, or the Galletto alla Diavola, a spicy, brandy-reduced butterflied Cornish hen offering robust, smoky notes. If seafood entices you, the Swordfish "Salmoriglio" delights with thin herb-marinated slices perfectly grilled to tender, juicy perfection.

Serafina Osteria’s pasta selections are consistently praised for their authentic flavors and delicate textures. Favorites include the rich and comforting Ravioli, the tangy Garganelli Al Pomodoro Di Collina, and the intriguingly fresh Spaghetti Al Limone. The Pesto Gnocchi and Fusilli with Sausage and Spinach offer hearty, flavorful experiences that embrace Italy’s rustic roots.

Don’t miss the decadent desserts – the Tiramisu and the highly recommended Chocolate Temptation (also known as the Chocolate Brownie delight) provide a sumptuous and satisfying finale to any meal. Visitors often share glowing remarks about the perfect balance of sweetness and texture in their desserts.

Patrons appreciate the attentive and efficient service at Serafina Osteria, with the caveat that the quick pace may feel a bit brisk for those looking to savor every bite slowly. Pricing aligns with Midtown expectations—reasonably on the higher side but reflecting the quality of ingredients, skillful preparations, and prime location. An automatic 18% gratuity is applied, a standard practice in the area.

Overall, Serafina Osteria offers an authentic Italian dining experience infused with warmth, flavor, and a touch of New York sophistication. Whether you’re visiting for a casual meal, a date night, or a pre-show dinner, this gem delivers consistently satisfying fare that will leave you eager to return for another memorable bite.

6/2025 good food, good atmosphere;lively and a little loud but not too loud. Food is good, wine reasonably priced. Salad; delicious. ----- 9/2024 great little neighborhood, Italian eatery. No pizzas here. Food was good, pricing was a little expensive as expected but not over the top, very nice outdoor dining area available in a small intimate atmosphere.

Very decent Italian restaurant. Cute atmosphere. They have a lot of daily specials that are probably better on a piece of paper rather than being recited by the waiter. Food is served fast. Almost scarily fast. I didn’t even have time to eat the bread! Vodka pasta was not a hit for me. It didn’t have much flavour? I had the chocolate temptation desert. It was good. I don’t know if I’d come back for it though ~25-45 $ per person

The service was very good. I recommend the Chocolate Tempation dessert. Galletto was ok, but had too many bones and it was hard to get to the meat. The petto di pollo was extremely thin. Overall, the food was good, but I found the servings smaller than in other restaurants in NY. The restaurant added 18% gratuity by default.

Early dinner with a friend before an Off Broadway show. My branzino was perfectly done, ditto the accompanying broccoli, carrots, and potatoes. Broccoli and carrots are sometimes served undercooked for my taste. These were ideally tender. Compliments to the kitchen!

One of our go to mid-town eats. We’ve Ben coming here for years. Consistently good. Easy to access. The outdoor dining has really helped as it’s a small venue. If you’re in mid-town and looking for a place to get good Italian food the Osteria will not disappoint. Update!!!! Back again. Everything was excellent. Never disappointing.

I ordered the lemon pasta it was very nice mostly because of lemon sauce. I loved the lemon sauce it added a lot more flavor. I also loved the service it came so quick. The atmosphere was not as good, but almost perfect if not for construction. Of all the pasta places I have been to this has got to be my favorite.
